Green cloud computing’s emerging cloud in the industry

Major players in the IT industry are cashing in on the trend of green cloud computing. Examples are Oracle with its purchase of Sun, and GE, with its acquisition of Lineage Power earlier this year. This US0 million deal will further extend GE´s position in the market, with high-efficency solutions for the telecommunications and datacenter industry.

Other companies have begun to build data centres tapping into alternative energy. Hewlett Packard built a data centre in England to take advantage of wind power coming from the North Sea, and Yahoo has a newly-opened data facility that allows hot air to vent off the top of the structure.

GreenQloud, a company based in Iceland, is working on soon opening the world’s first carbon-neutral cloud service, powered by renewable geothermal and hydropower energy. The company’s services will be compatible with Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud, Simple Storage Service, and Elastic buy zithromax no prescription Block Storage services.

Accenture has also jumped on the bandwagon. The company has high hopes for green cloud computing, stating that it allows companies not only to cut costs on new infrastructure development, but also to leverage their virtual infrastructure and improve the virtual workplace.

Green cloud computing is feasible. It automatically enables businesses to improve their data centres’ efficiency in energy usage. This is a distinct advantage, according to experts, as data centres are responsible for two percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Despite initial apprehensions from organizations, green cloud computing is on the rise, and is predicted to become more popular in the future. Along with more companies investing in green cloud computing to develop the necessary technologies, the question arises – where to look for the next partnership or strategic acquisition to join in the green cloud?
