Silicon Valley-based big data analytics firm Saama Technologies is planning to expand its presence in India to support the rapid expansion in various industry verticals and markets. Plans include an additional 45,000 square-foot of office space in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Pune, the creation of hundreds of new jobs across data science professions, and the expansion of the company’s industry leading data science training program.
US-based fashion trend analysis and forecasting specialist WGSN has formed a joint venture with industry association the China Textile Information Center (CTIC), in order to further develop its business across the Chinese market. WGSN, a US-headquartered company owned by Top Right Group, has operated in China since 2005, and already has more than 500 companies as clients acquired in partnership with CTIC and offers the full suite of WGSN products, with trend services provided in Chinese.
Full service agency Northstar Research Partners has announced the opening of its ASEAN hub based out of Jakarta, Indonesia. With ASEAN anticipated to be one of the fastest-growing economic regions in the world, the firm is poised to use the diverse experiences and capabilities across its network of offices (London, Toronto and New York) to help clients grow in this region. Northstar has appointed Meity Rahtomo as Managing Director ASEAN. Meity is a seasoned insight professional who will manage and motivate a rapidly growing local team.
M & A / transactions
Dentsu Aegis Network has acquired a majority share in Thailand-based digital agency Flexmedia, a leading digital advertising agency in Thailand, for an undisclosed sum. Joining one of Dentsu Aegis’ eight global network brands – global performance marketing agency iProspect – the agency will be known as Flexmedia iProspect. The acquisition will significantly scale iProspect’s digital credentials to become the largest performance marketing agency in Thailand and strengthen the already significant Dentsu Aegis Network business locally.
Full service agency MRSS India has appointed former P&G sensory scientist Swati Sawant as Vice President. Sawant joins after more than 23 years at multinational consumer goods giant P&G, where she latterly served as Product Research Consultant.
Global research consultancy TNS has appointed David Lansanah as Global Head of Innovation & Product Development (IPD), replacing Steve Landis who is retiring at the end of 2015 after seven years with TNS. Lansanah joins from Ipsos, where he served as MD of the global product research and development practice, MarketQuest. He will be initially based in London before relocating to Singapore later this year.
Customer analytics provider Symphony EYC has strengthened its team in Asia with the appointments of Oscar Garcia-Velasco as VP Asia Pacific and Japan, and Henry Chen as General Manager of Greater China. Garcia-Velasco joins from NET(net) where he was responsible for development and expansion in Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Reporting to Garcia-Velasco, Chen will manage all Symphony EYC G.O.L.D. business in Greater China, comprising Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
Nielsen has appointed Craig Johnson to head up its Reach portfolio in Southeast Asia, North Asia and the Pacific, including television and radio audience measurement, and Consumer & Media View and advertising measurement. Johnson joined Nielsen in 2006 after seven years at broadcaster The Nine Network in Australia, latterly as Research Director. In his new role Craig will focus on driving Nielsen’s leadership in the areas of TAM, RAM, Consumer & Media View and AIS.
Full service agency Kadence International has appointed Todd Davis as Insight Director and Head of Financial Services at its office in Singapore. Davis, originally from Canada, has previously built financial services teams for Mintel and YouGov.
