Entertainment options continue to abound. Along with different entertainment sources and venues come free downloads of all kinds of applications. So why do some people still pay to download applications from the internet, when they can get it for free?
VoIP. There was a time when calling someone over the telephone was a costly expense, but with the coming of VoIP systems, this is now a thing of the past.
There are, of course, free downloads of VoIP systems on the internet. But some consumers still choose to pay for VoIP for several reasons. This may include the fact that a paid VoIP provider may provide more features, such as an emergency call functionality. Another reason may have to do with the quality of the voice transmission. Additionally, ‘free’ VoIP providers may actually charge for certain features, such as caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, voice mail, and the like. Aside from this, some supposedly free VoIP providers may only offer calls to the same network, or only to select destinations. Business owners who especially need to send faxes or documents may opt for paid VoIP instead, as these extras are included in most packages.
TV & MOVIES. The ease of downloading movies online contributes to its popularity. Although the temptation of peer-to-peer movie/TV sharing sites is strong, paid downloads are still known to give more choices in films, as well as eliminating disappointment (compared to peer-to-peer sites, where sometimes a movie or TV show can only be viewed halfway, or worse, without an ending). Memberships to paid downloading sites are often inexpensive, and offer an unlimited number of movies per month, or a pay-as-you-download option. They are also seen as secure and reliable, compared to free downloading sites.
The mentioned reasons may influence the decisions of consumers on whether they would like to take advantage of a free or a paid downloading site. At the end of the day, the consumer knows best – and word-of-mouth is definitely an option that many downloading sites can take heed of.
