Now in its second year, the Greener Package Award demonstrates the best practices and the greatest innovations in sustainable packaging. The aim is to choose companies based on their capacity to spearhead innovation and to improve the economic efficiency of their programs.
The judges consist of packaging experts from across the packaging world — retailers, recyclers, packaged goods companies, converters, raw material suppliers, designers, consultants, academics, and NGOs (non-governmental organisations).
The Innovator of the Year Award went to Vanguard Packaging for its 250,000-sq-ft subterranean manufacturing facility, built alongside an existing 150,000-sq-ft underground fulfilment and assembly plant. The operation and facility resulted in big sustainability gains and cost savings. Vanguard Packaging is an independently owned manufacturer in the US. They design, manufacture, assemble, fulfil and distribute a wide variety of corrugated packaging, point-of-purchase products, pressure sensitive labels and spiral wound paper tubes and cores to a national customer base. Vanguard Packaging also received the Beyond the Package Award for their highly-innovative green policies and initiatives.
The winners of the Greener Package Awards can be considered examples of packages and best practices that the rest of the industry can learn from. The competition’s goal: Accelerate the learning curve on the sustainable packaging journey.
